Did you know such words and phrases like “fashionable”, “gossip”, “lonely”, “upstairs”, “break the ice”, “love is blind”, “the world is my oyster”, “wild goose chase”, “good riddance” were coined by William Shakespeare, whose birthday and anniversary of his death we celebrate on the 23rd of April – International English Language Day?! National hero of the UK, Bard of Avon, talented poet and playwriter had a huge impact on modern-day English language, literature and culture.
First-year students of ISTU college took part in celebrations and festive events this day. They presented their reports, posters and presentations about interesting facts of English language, Shakespeare’s life and his creative works, the Globe theater. Students declaimed sonnets and poems written by William Shakespeare, Robert Burns, Rudyard Kipling, Edgard Albert Guest, Lang Leav. The most active students tried their luck in a lottery. The number “5” (symbolically 2+3) was fortunate to Miroshnichenko Vlad (Ск-41), Prykhodko Kristina (Юк-41), Novitskyi Vitalii (Ік-42), Riabchuk Anna (Ік-41). These students will enjoy reading short stories written by British and American writers while drinking aroma tea ….. as a prize.
